What We Believe

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who is also the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and the origin of all created things, has revealed unchangeable standards for men to live by (Exodus 3:5-6, Ephesians 1:3, John 8:54-58, Psalm 119:106).
These standards are revealed in Holy Scripture.
God gave us these standards for many reasons. One important reason is:
The one who lives by the standards pleases God.
When the Have A Standard Foundation runs an event, teaches a class, or sends students on a missions trip, our philosophy is the same as the philosophy behind the storyline of the C.R.O.S.S.FIRE Commandos comic book team:
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21)
The C.R.O.S.S.FIRE Commandos comic book characters are members of a non-violent rescue team that rescues individuals caught in the crossfire of difficult situations. One of their mottos is, “Never leave a man behind.” Real-life C.R.O.S.S.FIRE Commandos coaches and mentors know the importance of having a relationship with Jesus Christ, so that when He returns, C.R.O.S.S.FIRE students “will not be left behind.”
Ty Cobb, founder of the Have A Standard Foundation, become a Christian during an interview with Dr. Joe White for a position with Kanakuk Kamps in 1981. Kanakuk has served as a model for much of what Have A Standard does, including our belief system.
ONE TRUE GOD
We believe the one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM,” the creator of Heaven and Earth. (Genesis 1:1; Exodus 3:14; Isaiah 43:10-11)
THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
We believe that Jesus Christ is the “image of the invisible God” and that in Him “all deity dwells in bodily form.” We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, His death on the cross as the substitutionary atonement for sin, His literal bodily resurrection from the dead, His present ministry of intercession in Heaven, and His personal future return to the earth. (Colossians 1:15-22; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; 1 Peter 3:18)
THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts men of sin and regenerates, indwells, seals, sets apart, and empowers believers for service and for holy living and a holy life. We believe that “God is at work within us both to will and work to His good pleasure” and that “He will continue to perfect us until the day of Christ Jesus.” (John 14:16; Romans 8:14-16; Ephesians 1:13; Philippians 1:6; 2:13)
THE GODHEAD
We believe in the unity and trinity of the Godhead existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. These three persons are one God having the same nature, attributes, and perfection. (Genesis 1:26; John 1:14, 15:26, 17:21; Ephesians 4:4-6)
HUMANITY
We believe that man was created in the image of God but was separated from God by sin and shall be judged; and only through the Blood of Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained. (Genesis 1:27, 2:22; Romans 3:23; Hebrews 9:27; Romans 5:12)
SALVATION
We believe in salvation by grace, a free gift from God apart from works. Salvation comes through repentance, a turning from one’s own way to God’s way, and accepting Jesus Christ in personal faith. (Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; John 1:12)
THE HOLY SCRIPTURES
We believe both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible to be the inerrant, holy work of God, inspired in every part by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the revelation of God for the equipping of man and is the supreme and final authority for faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:14-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
