Salvation Army Kroc Center Multi-Activity Structure Participation Information:
Weekend competitions which include live music performances are the largest events and will usually require the adjacent basketball court to support the participants and spectators.
Events during the week are smaller groups and the activities are contained within the Multi-Activity Structure. Some of these events are set-up to have a mentor work together with their assigned student to overcome problem solving challenges in the video-game atmosphere of the experiential learning obstacle course.
Other events partner members of urban and suburban athletic teams to work together to make it through the obstacle course adventures. This course creates opportunities for adventures that give the mentor and student different challenges and scenarios to work through each time they visit. This is unlike a typical gym that does not lend itself to activities that a mentor and student can interact and work together with.
The speed and agility obstacle course and physical challenge area will allow athletic team members to have their physical abilities be tested and recorded. When they return for other events, ceremonies, tournaments, athletic clinics or camps they will continue to be tested to monitor and report their progress.
The Multi-Purpose area mainly serves as a holding area for parents and siblings of students that are participating in activities within the multi-activity structure. It can also be scheduled/reserved for specific groups/events; athletic team award ceremonies, UYI meetings, etc.
The age range for participants will be from four years old to seniors. Each individual event, activity or competition is structured to be age appropriate for the participants. The largest events will be on weekend evenings with two main age groups: High school students and Middle school students. These two age groups will have separate time slots for events. During school hours the events will be geared toward lower school students taking field trips.
The Theming and decorating of the structure is an important part of the over-all strategy to get students fired-up and keep them engaged over the long term. Most of the Theming and decorating of the Multi-Activity structure is geared toward High school aged students; the younger students are easier to motivate and excite.
